Take a load off: how strong platform engineering moves an organisation forward
Platform engineering as a role and team is still fairly new, but the presence of platform engineering in an organisation is growing (1, 2, 3). Typically within an organisation the platform team is focused on enabling application development teams to move faster by simplifying what those teams need to think about as they deliver their value. Strong platform teams, like strong application development teams, have a product mindset. Platform folks get to know the teams they serve, and they work closely with the broader organisation to ensure that they meet their users’ needs with the organisation’s best interest in mind. Join us to hear more about the practice, the shape of the role, the goals of the team, and the benefit the role and the team can bring to an organisation.
Winna is a Principal Engineer at Syntasso delivering Kratix, an open-source framework for building internal platforms on Kubernetes. In past roles, Winna has helped application development teams such as BMW, Allianz and Sainsbury’s to build better software. She’s also worked in the platform space as both an engineer and engineering leader working with CloudFoundry. And with a background in design and user research, Winna is happy to combine all of her experience to work on solving platform engineering problems. Outside of work, Winna mostly tries to keep up with her two young girls whilst maintaining her sanity.
